Things to Do During Quarantine

Depending on where you live, it’s been quite some time since quarantine or a lock-down has been implemented, and we’re sure that your current boredom-busting activities are starting to get a bit old. But don’t worry! We’ve got your back. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite things to do during quarantine to stay sane.

Note: More ideas will be released soon! This is a quick-read list we have compiled, and detailed posts regarding each sub-topic will also be made available in the upcoming weeks. Don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any ideas/suggestions. We value your feedback!

Zoom (& more!) Calls with Friends and Family

Staying connected with loved ones while social distancing measures are in-place is still possible! Using platforms such as Zoom, WebEx, Skype, and FaceTime can allow you to communicate with friends and family members despite the physical gap. Set up a call with everyone and chit-chat over a nice cup of morning coffee!

Netflix Party

If you have been eyeing a certain TV show or movie on Netflix, don’t watch it alone! Netflix has recently released a Google Chrome extension called “Netflix Party” that allows you and your friends and family to stream on Netflix together, and communicate via a chat-box. We’ve been using this feature a ton, as we’ve watched movies including Bounty Hunter (this month’s pick!), Always Be My Maybe, and Set it Up—all of which are great selections by the way!

Cooking/Baking

Shreya has recently struck up a newfound love for baking (recipes coming soon!) during quarantine, and enjoys pretending she’s on the sets of Sugar Rush and Nailed It! (hahah) with her mom. Whether you’re inspired by the delicacies presented on cooking competitions, or have been wanting to test out that recipe you saw on Food Network three months ago, now’s the time to unleash your inner chef! Cooking is a great skill to have, and one that can save you a lot of money in the long-run—plus, it’s really fun if you can get the whole family involved. If you’re more of a dessert queen (like Shreya!), start baking. Shreya recommends using the AllRecipes website because it allows you to input your desired serving size and tailors the recipe measurements to that amount!

Fitness

Our normal schedules are so jam-packed that we often overlook our mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing—all of which are essential components of a healthy lifestyle. Since quarantine has given us more time on our hands, we suggest you delve into a new fitness routine! Shreya really enjoys doing a combination of meditation and yoga in the mornings, as it brings a positive start to her day and provides her with a boost of energy that allows her to tackle whatever lies ahead. We also enjoy going on (respective) walks and runs (with masks on and proper social distancing, of course!) in the evening for some cardio and as a way to build-up our stamina. Don’t fret if your home isn’t equipped with a full-fledged gym (ours aren’t!); you can still do those targeted exercises! All you need is a yoga mat for support, and weights are optional (both can be ordered on Amazon). Browse through the countless workout videos on YouTube and find one you like (Shreya loves Blogilates)!

Artwork

We’re both major art lovers! We’ve committed quarantine towards teaching ourselves how to draw and paint, and are even exploring other forms of art too (be on the lookout for art-related posts coming soon!)—we suggest you do the same. Pull out those old paintbrushes and try a tutorial on YouTube (we’ll be posting about our experience trying out a Bob Ross tutorial!). It’s easy to get discouraged if you try something uber-complicated. Try starting with a simple tutorial—we drew an eye over a WebEx call at 2 in the morning (hahah) and were pleasantly surprised! If you’re more of a tech-ey person (like Kuhu), you can download apps such as ArtBook or Procreate and do digital drawings (Kuhu will be sharing her experiences with these apps in the near future!). Shreya recommends beginners to experiment with watercolors before acrylics (contrary to popular advice), as she found it easier to blot away mistakes and blend different colors with the use of water.

Hope this is helpful! Let us know if you try any of these activities and how it goes!

Love,

Shreya + Kuhu!
